Longley Base, 1940.

Three squadrons - two Hurricanes and one Spitfire - are recovering at RAF Longley from the battles of the British retreat from France.

Pilots such as Officer Roy Taylor spend their days waiting for the telephone to ring and for someone to shout 'Scramble!'.
