This book is the result of John Bradford receiving, in 1996, a Northern Territory Government-funded History Award to research RAN heroism in the first air raid on Darwin. Naturally enough, the focus of this work was on events occurring during or soon after the raid. The book, an extension of this research, has given John the opportunity to touch on some other gallantry issues pertinent to the RAN's involvement in WWII.
