Milne Bay 1942: The Story of "Milne-Force" and Japan's First Military Defeat on Land (1991) By Clive Baker & Greg Knight

The Story of "Milne Force" and Japan's First Military Defeat on Land. New Guinea Campaigns Series. Several contributors. Researched by Clive Baker & Greg Knight. Foreword by Brigadier Sir Frederick Chilton. Numerous b&w photographs & illustrations throughout. With maps. Includes appendices, bibliography, abbreviations & glossary, list of contributors, index of events, index of names, plus index of units.

In this book, the authors have put a great deal of effort into researching this topic. The result is a comprehensive and graphic account of the Milne Force and this crucial battle of over more than 50 years ago. It outlines the general situation in the South-West Pacific at the time, the decision to garrison Milne Bay, and the buildup of Milne Force. The story of the enemy landing and the bitter fighting is detailed and convincing. In particular, the authors have made effective use of many accounts by men who had been at the "cutting edge" of the fighting.
